It seemed like a good idea at the time, one for the annals of great publicity gimmicks. An ambitious Internet marketing company would sponsor a double-decker London bus to drive around central Paris, throwing cash from the windows in a promotional stunt.

But it didn’t quite work out as planned. Minutes before the event was to have started late Saturday morning, the police decided they did not like the look of the hard-jostling crowd of around 7,000 people that had formed near the Eiffel Tower in search of instant riches, and they ordered the event stopped before even a single centime had been handed out. Some in the crowd then ran amok.

In the ensuing mayhem, about a dozen people were arrested, store windows were broken, a car was overturned and at least one man was beaten by thugs. The riot police were called in to restore order.

Instead of the middle-class Parisians the organizers had hoped for, witnesses said the crowd, overwhelmingly young, male and poor, appeared to be made up mostly of residents of the tough suburbs that ring the French capital, as well as poor students and homeless men.

In an effort to end WWII, a high ranking Soviet army official, with an abundance of medals on his chest, today told AP that the Politburo had send a telegram to the German High Command, stating that peace would be an option if the Germans would containe extreme elements in the Werhmact.

"We have no quarrel with the German people per se," the official said.
"We know the vast majority are moderates who only want to live in peace with their neighbors. However, there seems to some bad apples in the invading German armies, particularly in the SS, who seems to enjoy rounding up innocent civilians for no apparent reason and either kill them on the spot, or use them at slave-labor behind the front."

"Not that we have anything against that," he hastingly added. "After all, the Communist Party have been doing the exact same thing for decades, in fact ever since the glorious Bolshevik Revolution; but still, it would be nice if either the Kremlin or the local Commissar got to decide who and how many to purge and who not to," the official said under the promise of anonymity, lest he be summarily executed by the whim of Soviet leader, Joseph Stalin, and unceremoniously buried in an unmarked grave somewhere in Siberia.

This diplomatic move is believed to have been taken in concert with the US and Great Britain, as both countries yesterday took a similar step towards the Empire of Japan.

"We understand the cultural gap between Western Democracy and the Japanese way of Bushido, and we in the West have no desire to insult a culture as old and civilized as the Japanese," an official from the State Department said under the condition that he would not be named, lest he would find himself in the first wave in a rumored amphibious asualt on Iwo Jima.

He went on to say that the sinking of the US fleet at Pearl Harbor and the subsequent invasions of various islands i the Pacific could be excused as an "explainable misunderstanding between the great Empire of Japan and the West", and that the US might be willing "to overlook these unfortunate incidents".

However, some argument is reported going on between the State Department and the Pentagon.

An ranking officer at the Pentagon told the AP:
"If some sissy [expletive] in the [expletive] State Department thinks there's any slant-eyed gooks in the Jap's sorry excuse of a [expletive] government, who's willing to cut a [expletive] deal, he's very much mistaken. Only hours after his statement was made public, the officer was suddenly hospitalized due to a massive cardiac arrest, sources say.

This new allied policy was conformed by the British later the same day:

"It's one thing to behead POW's or force them to build bridges over rivers, but those wretched Kamikazes are getting somewhat annoying," a British War Office employee said to AP, adding that: "I wouldn't go so far as to say that it isn't cricket, but it is hardly good form to wage a war that way, old boy."

The Axis Powers have so far not reacted to the allied's suggestions, as they are busy taking over the the world.
A senior German field marshal, however, did say when asked about the recent development: "Donner und Blitzen! Now you tell me. And I've just got my orders to re-deploy Army Group South and take Stalingrad. Talk about bad timing!"

Richard Holbrooke, United States President Barack Obama's special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, was urged Tuesday to reach out to reconcilable factions among the Taliban insurgents as an essential move towards bringing peace to the region.

Holbrooke is on the first leg of a tour, including Afghanistan and India, aimed at developing a new strategy against Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan.

UPDATE: Not to mention this rolling of eyes by the Talliban:

"This does not require any response or reaction for this is illogical," Qari Mohammad Yousuf, a purported spokesman for the insurgent group, told Reuters when asked if its top leader Mullah Mohammad Omar would make any comment about Obama's proposal.

"The Taliban are united, have one leader, one aim, one policy...I do not know why they are talking about moderate Taliban and what it means?"

Vets Welcomed Home

Times are a'changin'.

The Danish public have always looked with quite a lot of skepticism on the military. Ether they thought that the soldiers were bumbling idiots of the Keystone variety, or the servicemen were bloodthirsty maniacs (although still idiots.)

I spend several years in the army back in the 80s at the heydays of the "peace movement" when I couldn't tell anyone I didn't know that I was a professional soldier lest I got personally responsible for the deployment of Pershing missiles, or little old me would provoke the Soviets to unleash Nuclear Armageddon.

This seems to have slowly changed as the army has shown great professionalism and fighting skills in Afghanistan, demanding the respect of the general public.

For the first time in years a parade was performed to celebrate the return of a battalion rotated out of Afghanistan. People actually cheered and applauded the soldiers:

People lined the streets of Holstebro yesterday to welcome home the Danish troops who recently returned from their tour of duty in Afghanistan

Spontaneous applause greeted the 600 soldiers returning from their tour of duty with the Nato-led Afghanistan mission yesterday, as they took part in an official parade through the streets of Holstebro, northern Jutland.
Defence Minister Søren Gade attended the parade and was surprised by the reaction of the crowd.

‘When people suddenly started to clap it was like an out of body experience for me. If I had said five or six years ago that people would applaud returning Danish soldiers, people would have thought I was drunk. It really was a moving experience,’ said Gade.

There was also time set aside to remember the six members of the deployed team who lost their lives in Afghanistan. Major General Niels Bundsgaard asked for a minute’s silence to remember the fallen at the local Dragoon Regiment Barracks.

Please include these six men who paid the ultimate price for our freedom in your prayers. I for one salute them and their comrades in arms.

LEGO donates toys to Sdrerot pre-schools

Danish Ambassador to Israel, Liselotte Plesner was present at a ceremony in Sderot, Israel giving LEGO toys to the pre-schools in the missile stricken town.

Denmark's ambassador to Israel, Liselotte Plesner, visited Sderot on Tuesday to take part in a celebration – held in a fortified pre-school – to honor a generous contribution by the LEGO group to WIZO (Women's International Zionist Organization) pre-schools.

The LEGO group contributed two large containers holding a thousand boxes of 'duplos' – large-sized Lego blocks. The Danish toys will be distributed among 170 WIZO pre-schools across Israel and particularly to the 35 pre-schools located in southern communities, where residents are still suffering from rocket-fire.

The Danish ambassador surprised participants by delivering a speech to the children and pre-school employees in Hebrew. In her speech, she referred to the trauma to children in the rocket-plagued region, saying "the children who live under the threat of Qassams need to be able to escape to a world of magic and creativity – something that can be done with Legos."

Shouting 'Fire' in a Theater

Flemming Rose, the former cultural editor of jyllands-Posten and the man responsible for printing the MoToons back in 2005 has an interesting comment on the grounds of witch Geert Wilders was denied entry to the UK earlier this month. A take on the lazy argument that Freedom of Speech doesn't allow one to shout 'Fire' in a crowded theater.

Drawing an analogy with socialist Schenck handing out flyers falls short in the Wilders case. What's more, Holmes later used an opposing argument to defend freedom of speech. But note that in defending the move to keep Wilders out, Miliband forgot that Holmes said you weren't allowed to yell 'fire' unless there actually was a fire. If there is a fire, or if there is smoke, then you have an obligation to draw everyone's attention to it.

Wilders's film is made up of documentary pictures, which makes it hard to reject them as false. What's more, the issue the film takes up – violence carried out in the name of religion – is a part of the European reality, which makes it a subject of heated discussion. You can argue that Wilders's depiction is one-sided and that it is propaganda, but Michael Moore does the same thing, and he wins film awards.

This time of the trial Geert Wilders now faces for daring to quote the Koran. This is surely racist and hate-speech, how dare he point out all the hate and incitement to bloodshed in The Book written by Allah's own finger. Wilders must be impaled and quartered by wild horses.

Thank God there are still people like Pat and Wilders who will not be shut up by insane imams and dhimmi politicians.

And while we're at it, why not review "Fitna" this horrible, horrible hate movie filled with lies and distortions.

For as we all know, Islam means "peace" and all references to beheading, stoning, and massacres in general in the Koran are taken out of context.

Pat Condell is a brave man, his life expectancy can't be that long. One day he'll be found on a street with a javelin in his heart and a note saying: "Kill those who says Islam is violent!"

Which of course is a saying taken out of context.

Unrest in Copenhagen

A pro-Israel rally was held today on the City Hall Square in Copenhagen. As opposed to the situation in Oslo everything went peaceful.

The indefatigable Steen from Snaphanen was there and have posted a few snapshots on his blog:

However, only minutes after the (according police estimates, 300-400) demonstrators had dispersed, an unannounced rally took place at the Square, this time with Palis and left wing Danish moonbats.

Meanwhile, "youths" have been running amok in Copenhagen, with so far 75 arrests being made.

A few highlights from Jyllands-Posten (Link in Danish, my translation.)

Press Officer at Copenhagen's Police, Flemming Steen Munch, says it was a group of about 75 persons with some 22 minors that were arrested. He also described the group as completely out of reach.

"It hasn't evolved as peaceful as we had hoped," [he] said.

The police also reported about unrest in Nørrebro [a neighborhood in Copenhagen and Ground Zero for much of civil unrest in the city. Ed.] Fireworks were thrown inside a McDonald's and eggs where thrown at several busses.

Yeah, that will show those genocidal Joooz. "Stop the war, or every bus in Copenhagen will be covered in eggs!" Brilliant.

The police also reports of several car windows being smashed in. At one occasion a mother and her child was dragged out of their car before the windows were smashed.

Co-incidentally, at the exact same time as this unrest occurred, another demonstration were held a few kilometers away, in front of the Parliament, Christiansborg, by a bunch of indigenous Danes demanding that the immigration laws be loosened and that more immigrants should be allowed into the country. "It is the only decent thing to do," a spokesman declared on TV.

Perhaps the timing of such a rally could been have better if you ask me.

Funny thing about blogging.

For instance, my post a few days ago spawned this spin-off (or so I imagine) on Stillmate:

Danish warship not allowed to board pirate vessel

The Danish warship Absalon today caught up with a Somali pirate vessel that had unsuccessfully tried to seize first a cruise ship and then a cargo ship in the bay of Aden.

The Danish SEAL-detail on Absolon was ready to board the suspected vessel, but orders came from the American central command of Taskforce 150 to abort on the the grounds that "it was not worth the risk" and the pirates were allowed to go on with their business.

Let me first say this: I have been mightily inspired by Paco a frequent commenter over at Tim Blair's site. (A guy I cannot recommend enough!) I've even been so inspired, that I tryed to sneak this little stupid story into the comments, but it got the boot by moderator Tran because she thought it was "too long and too sweary."

It's 3 AM and the computer on President John McCain's bed table suddenly comes alive: - You have mail!

- Sweet bejeezus! McCain yells. Alarmed by the urgency in the President's voice, Joe, his Secret Service detail, rushes in. Seeing that no one else is in the room, he holsters hos Dessert Eagle.

The President points at the computer: - Look, that there thing. It said something!

Joe, sensing the emergency mumbles into his armpit:
- Sixteen hunnerd needs the dork, and I mean now!

Less than 30 seconds later, two very broad-shouldered men in black suits throws in a skinny guy, who - in comparison with the Secret Service agents - doesn't appear to have any shoulders at all. He's still dressed in his pyjamas with small yellow ducklings patched all over it, and his hair is in absolute disarray.

Not for the the first time does Bartholemew (III) S. Simmel curse the day he took shis shitty job. (Yes, in his head he actually uses that profanity, which only goes to show how much he dispises this way of making a living.)

Still, he's serving at the Pleasure of the President of the United States! His attempt to come to attention is however somewhat foiled by the fact that he is still holding a teddy-bear in his hand.

- Bart, the President bellowes. - This thing just spoke to me. Is this what you call an, erm, I-letter?

Bartholemew withholds a sigh. He is very tired. Not only had he spent most of the previous night trying to explain to the Cabinet the subtle differences between a PC and a Mac, but the Secret Service agents had just yanked him out af a rather juisy dream involving Miss Jones, his German-teacher back in high school, and the hot phone-lady down at the reception.

He looked nearsighted into the 12 inch monitor. - Sir, it appears you have recieved an E-MAIL! Bartholemew tried to pronounce the word very slowly, but was brusquely brushed off:

- Yeah yeah, whatever. Is it from Putin? Has he declared war? I mean, it would be nice if the President of the US knew whether the fucking country was at war again, would't ya think! The President reached under his bed and produced a clay bottle marked XXX, an inauguraton present from one of his many third cousins down in the Bayu. He took a swig and dried his mouth with the back of his hand. - So, Bartie, tell me about this here u-post!

Bartholemew succeeded in opening the mail. Windows 3.1 wasn't really that easy to operate. - Sir, this E-MAIL (he tried again) appears to originate from Nigeria. Something about a bank account and an inheretance. There is also an attachment in it. However, I strongly advise against opening it as it may contain a virus.

McCain looked flabbergasted at his Cheif Cyberspace Advisor: - A virus? Are you telling me this thing has cooties? Then what the fuck is it doing in my bedroom?

Bartholemew opened his mouth for a few seconds then closed it again. What would be the point, he thought.

McCain turned to Joe, his trusted bodyguard and another of Sarah Palin's countless Alaskian friends and relatives he had hired on her strong recommendation. - Joe, what the hell's Nigeria and why are they sending me A-Cards?

Joe scratched his 3 AM shade. - Not really to sure, sir. I believe it's some sorry-assed country up somewhere in Tasmania or the likes!
He re-arrangened his chewing tobacco and spat out the used-up goo. In a perfect arc it landed dead-center in the President's tooth-glass.
- I do remember I wasted a Nigerian once. Big as a moose he was. Took three rounds between the eyes and a swing from my hockey stick before he went down, but down he went none the less!
Joe went thoughtful for a moment. - Then again, he might have been from Illinois. All them friggin' foreigners look alike to me, if you'll pardon my Siberian, sir!

McCain was now on the verge of an information overload. After all, it was 3 AM. - Alright then! he boomed at Bartholemew (III) S. Simmel and pointed at the computer: - Get that confounded contraction outta here. And Joe, if Nigeria bothers me one more time tell the Pentagon to nuke the crap out of them. I may not know much about the Information Highway, but I do know something about bombs. After all, I am a Republican!!!

Times: Danish PM favorite as EU-Prez

I knew it! I just knew it.

Danish PM, Anders Fogh Rasmussen has been mentioned by the Times as the leading ~~Manchurian~~ candidate for office as EU's "super president, according the the Lisbon Treaty not a soul in Europe where allowed to vote about save for the Irish, who are getting whacked on their heads should they even ponder about saying "No."

Of course, Fogh (as he is called for short in Denmark) is not running for anything. He might get "elected" by the other PM's in the EU, kinda like when a new Pope is "elected" to take over the Vatican.

A man who has sold out on every possible of his former principles in the pursuing his new glory as ~~Emperor~~ President Of The United States of Europe.

And to think I once voted for that guy! Not any more. He stood as a staunch defender of Freedom of Speech during the MoToon-crisis, but since then he has back-pedaled on every issue, even going so far as condemning the movie Fitna and it's creator Geert Wilders, before he even had a chance to view it.

What are the odds that some big-whig in the EU gave him a nudge and whispered sweet word in Fogh's ears. You could get high up on the ladder, if only...wink-wink, know-what-I-mean! Say no more!
I'd say, the odds are pretty big. I hope he gets the job, and good riddance!

Amazing. Not a peep in the Danish MSM, not a hint, but a coincidental click on Snaphanen brought me to this story from Family Securities Matters:

It is interesting to note that CAIR director Nihad Awad will soon be sharing center stage in a major conference with Mohammad Akram al-Adlouni, the probable author of the most damning documents made public during the Holy Land Foundation trial.

The conference in Denmark, heavily populated with Muslim Brotherhood figures, is, according the program, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Nakbah or catastrophe, as they refer to the founding of the state of Israel.

The joint attendance of Awad and al Adlouni, now head of the al Quds Foundation in Lebanon, was first noted by the Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Report.

The GMBDR further noted that:

The Palestinian Return Centre in London, characterized by sources in London as close to Hamas, has Trustees that have also been on the board of the Muslim Association of Britain, one of the Muslim Brotherhood organizations in the U.K. The Centre itself has been widely promoted by the U.K Brotherhood. CAIR, in turn, had its origins in the Hamas support infrastructure in the U.S.

So, the old gang is getting together again, in the service of the Muslim Brotherhood and its armed wing, Hamas.

Terror threats closes Danish embassies

The Danish embassies in Afghanistan and Algeria has been closed and business are now taking place at undisclosed secure houses in Kabul and Algiers, according to Copenhagen Post:

National intelligence agency PET heightened the security level for Denmark and Danes abroad a couple of weeks ago and say the current threats against the embassies are due to the reprinting of the Mohammed cartoons in February.

Denmark's embassy in Jordan is still in operation, despite an in absentia court case going on in the country against several members of the Danish media for blasphemy over the printing of the drawings.

Regarding that last passage: One of the media-members facing charges for blasphemy in Jordan is the ~~Dhimmi~~Editor-in-Chief, Tøger Seidenfaden, from the leftist daily Politiken, a man who is constantly on TV as an apologist for Islam and a strong condemner of the MoToons.

I won't protest too strongly if they extradite him! :-)

Malpractice of wounded soldier

This is gross: A Danish soldier is badly wounded in Afghanistan and when he's shipped home he gets totally neglected by staff in the Danish national hospital.

From Jyllands-Posten (link in Danish, my translation):

A Danish soldier lay eight hours in terrible pain without receiving any treatment.

He was badly wounded in Afghanistan when his platoon fell into an ambush that left one soldier dead and two others wounded. One of these was "Skjold" [meaning shield] who lost his leg and fractured the other as well as an arm. He also suffered severe injuries in the face.

He was shipped home and was admitted to what is supposed to be the best hospital in Denmark. Yeah, right:

The soldier had to wait in agony for eight long hours before a large shot of morphine finally relieved him from the pain.

"I couldn't move without screaming. That night was pure Hell," says Skjold.

At his side is his buddy, "Rolf." [names are pseudonyms ed.] He has been following his friend's ordeal since Skjold came home on April 2.

According to Rolf, Skjold only received 2.5 milligram of morphine when he arrived at the hospital, not nearly enough and only one sixth of the dose he was given on the flight home. The bandages weren't changed for more than eight hours.
When it finally happened it stank like an abattoir.

"The dressings were soaked with fluids and the stench of rotten blood filled the room," says Rolf, who himself is an army medic.

Skjold have had his bandages changed five time, and every time he has to be under full anesthesia because of the pain. This requires him to be fasting for five hours before the procedure, but screw-ups and red tape in the hospital have left him starving and thirsting for as long as 20 hours.

This is bloody unacceptable! Every wounded soldier should get VIP-treatment. You know, the kind that the General Director of the hospital would get. Except of course, he would probably go to the US or Switzerland or Kazakhstan or wherever for treatment if he had any sense.

Don't let anyone fool you about socialized health care.

And to add insult to injury, the nurses are going on strike on Wednesday. Good luck, Skjold. You're gonna need it!

"We will stay in Afghanistan until our mission is completed, and the politicians should not discuss what year we will be pulled out," says the commander of the Royal Lifeguard regiment, Colonel Lasse Harkjær.

The discussion about an exit date began last week, when the center-left party "Radikale Venstre" suggested that the troops be pulled out by 2012. That idea received a lot of flak from most of the other parties and - as it is apparent - also from the grunts on the ground.

Gang stopped the riots

Last month Copenhagen and other towns in Denmark was the scene of riots committed by "youths." Some 800 fires were ignited in a week-long mini-intifada that saw the torching of cars and schools. The disturbances faded out, but not due to the police being massively present on the streets, nor by the social workers and volunteers who also tried to calm things down.

No, according to the Danish daily Berlingske Tidende (link in Danish) it was an infamous immigrant gang called Black Cobra that put an end to it because the riots interrupted the gang's drug operations.

Through wiretapping, the police heard that leading members of Black Cobra called a number of youths in [various towns].

The message from the leaders was, that the riots was to stop as the police presence on the streets made it difficult for the gang to continue their criminal activities such as selling drugs.

The police confirms the story:

We have followed the activities made by disenfranchised youth in the winter mid-term as we registered that people higher up in the hierarchy were annoyed because it made the police focus on the residential areas, says Kim Kliver.

You gotta love the new speak in Klivers statement. Kliver is a police officer and the leader of a national task force, responsible for monitoring and solving gang-related crimes.

Disenfranchised youth. That's one way of saying it. Bullies could be another.

People higher up in the hierarchy. In a gangster movie, that would be "captains."

Residential areas. Ah yes, AKA "ghettos".

Black Cobra is a gang that consists exclusively of second and third generation immigrants. They are slowly but surely taking over the lucrative drug marked that has, up until now, been split between the biker gangs Hells Angels and Banditos after an extremely brutal war in the late 1990'ies. Back then they were blowing each other up with RPG's, fer chrissake. Those are not gangs that will bend over easily, but they have been gradually doing so for the last five or six years, without much publicity. This should tell you something of the potential of Black Cobra.

If they have the power to stop one riot, they can just as easily unleash another, this time much more violent, if they feel the cops are getting too annoying.

We have something to look forward to!

Mo-cat cartoonist released

An update on the Mohammed the Cat crisis in Bangladesh back in October last year.

The text in the strip says:

* Boy, what is your name?
- My name is Babu.

* It is customary to mention Muhammed before the name.

* What is your father's name?
- Muhammed Abu

* What's this in your lap?
- Muhammed cat

This was of course such an insult on Islamic feelings that violent mobs of Muslims took to the street and demanded the cartoonist's death. The 23-year old boy was arrested for “hurting people’s religious sentiments.”

The cat-toon also lead to the killing of at least nine Christians and the torching of churches in Nigeria, of all places.

Now it seems the poor boy has been released from prison:

A BANGLADESH cartoonist jailed for allegedly insulting Muslims with a reference to the Prophet Mohammed has been released, court and prison officials said today.
Arifur Rahman, 23, was detained last September after the cartoon appeared in a weekly satirical magazine published by the mass-circulated Bengali daily Prothom Alo.

Prosecutor Shahidul Haque Bhuiyan said a magistrates' court in the capital Dhaka ordered that proceedings be dropped after the complainant in the case repeatedly failed to turn up for hearings.

Questions now are:

A: How long before the riots starts again in Bangladesh. It must be an insult to Muslim sensitivities to free a Godless blasphemer like Rahman.

B: How long will Rahman be allowed to keep his head?

C: How many Christians will die on the other side of the globe because of this ridicule of the Prostate Mohammad?

D: How many cats have been named Mohammad in the meantime?

All Keffiyeh and no Camels

Memri has found this little tidbit showing a spokesman for something called the Salah al-Din Brigades in Gaza. Note the plural. There must be a great many of them. Than again, maybe not. As one can see in the clip there seem to more press than Brigadistas at this little demonstration against Denmark.

The Spokesman, casually sporting a keffiyeh is issuing a statement, mostly - if not solely - consisting of an apparently never-ending rant of threats against Denmark and the cartoonists and diplomats and just about everything else he can somehow associate with Denmark.

Oh dear, I think I'll sleep under the bed tonight just in case the Mighty Warriors™ of the Salah-Al-Din Brigades (who knows, perhaps all of them!) comes crashing through my door.

Inside the heads of an honorable Muslim family

First some background:

Back in 2002 the body of a 14 year old girl of Iraqi origin was found floating drowned in the harbor by a fisherman in the small town of Præstø in Denmark. The girl had suffered several severe blows to the head and had been pushed into the harbor and left to drown. She was identified as Sonay Ahmad Mohammad, who had come to Denmark four years before along with her mother to be rejoined with the head of the family, Ashraf Ahmad
Muhammed.

Ashraf came to Denmark in 1996 as a refugee from Saddam Hussein's regime. The family moved into a row house and was apparently functioning well in the community. They took courses in Danish and were well liked. Sonay went to school with no problems, save one: She was became to Danish for her parents likings! She dated Danish boys and went to parties.

Her father began to beat her to try to keep her in fold, and - on the mother's request - even tried to strangle her. The school noticed that Sonay started to show up with bruises and she eventually confided in her teacher, who reported the abuse to the police and the girl was instantly removed from her family and put in a foster home.

Never the less, just four months later, county officials ignoring warnings from the municipality gave Ashraf permission to spend time with his daughter.

Next thing you know, Sonay is found floating in the harbor. Suspicion is quickly focused on her father, and despite his not-guilty claim he was convicted to 14 years in prison followed by a life-long deportation to Iraq. The sentence was appealed to the Supreme Court but was confirmed.

Now, - and this is where it gets a little complicated - Sonay's mother, Suheyla, was convicted of human smuggling by getting her brother-in-law, Jabbar, into Denmark on false papers and made him marry her sister whom she had also gotten in on false papers. She was sentenced to 30 days in jail and 5 years eviction.

OK, so much for the background. Danish TV2 is airing a documentary about this case later this month, and they have leaked an intercepted letter Ashraf send from his cell to his brother Jabbar back in 2005. Apparently things were not going too well in the family. The letter can be seen here (in Danish. Doc. my translation.) It's a bit incoherent and ranting, but the threat is none the less apparent.

I beg you my brother, I suffer every hour and every day. For Gods sake, please do one thing. No one will own the world (get this world for himself) neither you, me or anyone else. Do a good deed and you will be rewarded and do not help the infidels. It is written in the Qoran: God does not like the infidels.

It is stated in the Tradition: He who follows a nation will become one of them, therefor his place is in the fires of Hell. I ask you to listen to me and help your brother and a poor woman whose children are waiting for her.

These are my last word to you. I tell you, this world is too small and perhaps we will meet in Iraq or in some other country, God's earth is wide. If you do not help Suheyla [His wife] in this matter you will get conflicts with me. I will kill you like I killed the infidel Sonay. She used to make corruption *) every day with the infidel pigs. She made corruption twice in front of me and I murdered her with my own hands.

That is corruption. God, praised and glorified says: Do not corrupt the earth, and the infidels say that they are good.
[...]
I have Fatwa on cassette, if you understand you will weep, and I have friends, we are all united in God's religion only.

Salutations my brother. God will guide you in the right direction.

So, you might think this is just another madman killing his own offspring and threatening his brother with the same fate, because he's trapped in some 7th century mindset.

Well, not quite. Get a load of this: This article from 2003 cites Sonay's mother - remember, the one who got her sister and her brother-in-law to Denmark on false papers and then forced them marry each other, the one who ordered her husband to beat up her own daughter? Here's what she had to say :

I've bought two houses in Kirkuk in Iraq. As refugees we have got so much money from the Danish State that we have been able to save and buy the houses in cash.

My husband is in prison and I'm waiting for him. I have been granted an apartment and I get money from the system, so there is no reason for me to go back to Iraq.

Indeed, why should she go back? Perhaps to see her two remaining children?

"I'm afraid something will happen to my children, or that they should witness something happening to me. That's why I've sent them to Iraq where they live with my mother and my sister."

Ah, but of course, she is the victim! How thoughtless of me. All this time, I had the understanding that it was her daughter who was the victim. Silly me.

Anyway, isn't that nice of us. We take in a family of oppressed refugees, set them up, give them a monthly income, give them language courses, send their kids to school and the response is what? They murder their own 14 year old daughter because she gets to Western for their liking. They smuggle in two relatives on falsified papers and make them marry each other. And they get enough money from the hard-working taxpayers (that would be me!) to buy two houses in Iraq in cash. And they need to live here as refugees while it's perfectly safe for their small children to be in Iraq. Give me a frigging break!

Excuse me for wondering. But what the F*** are these people doing here? Or, perhaps more to the point: Why the F*** are we paying tax money to scum like that?

Westergaard illustrates his feelings

Kurt Westergaard has made a new drawing about his feelings over the newest row over the Motoons, with his own comments in both Danish and English.

The drawing is an artists interpretation of the ordeal he and his family have to go through over a little ink on a piece of paper.

I've nicked it from the bi-weekly magazine of the Danish Union of Journalists, Journalisten.

Cartoonist dies, age 89

One of the mo-cartoonists, Erik Abild Soerensen, has passed away, Flemming Rose reports.

“Prophet! Daft and dumb. Keeping women under thumb.”

According to Flemming Rose, police turned up offering protection because of the death threats back in 2006. His answer?

”I have passed the age of 85, I am sick and I have just lost my wife. Can it get worse? I don’t think so.”

Denmark to Sudan: Screw You!

After the "President" (read dictator) of Sudan once again have threatened Denmark with a boycott over the reprinting of the so-called "Prophet" Mohamed, the Danish Minister of Development, Ulla Tørness, have decided that boycott is a two-way street.

Sudan owes some two billion kroner (400 million US dollars) to Denmark, and the Danish government was negotiating with the Sudanese to release that debt.

Not anymore. This from Berlingske Tidende: (Link in Danish, my excerpt.)

The answer [to the boycott threats] will be, according to Minister of Development Ulla Tørness, that Denmark will not release Sudan's debt.

"In the international negotiations about releasing Sudan's debt, it will be Denmark's viewpoint that Sudan shall not have a release," says Ulla Tørness.

Sudan's ambassador has been summoned to a meeting, where he is to explain the calling to a boycott.

Denmark will not withdraw the humanitarian aid of some 52 million dollars that is going primarily to Darfur and the southern Sudan.

"Wanna play hardball? OK, I'll show you what hardball is!"

Hizb demo in Copenhagen

Yesterday a large demonstration organized by the fundamentalist Hizb ut-Tahrir took place in Copenhagen, protesting the reprinting of the Mohammed-cartoons. About a 1000 participants took the streets and listened to the spokesman, Fadi Abdullatif - a man convicted for racism and death threats against Jews and the Prime minister in Denmark.

Said Fadi Abdullatif got up on his soapbox and used his freedom of speech to attack the freedom of speech of others. According to Danish daily Politiken the pious Muslim spake thus:

"We are gathered here today becouse Freedom of Speech is a cursed instrument in the hands of politicians".

"In Islam we are duty bound to speak the truth, freedom of speech is the freedom to lie"

Can you say Taqiya mr. Abullatif?

Once again our dear prophet is subjected to insults and attacks. It is part of a camaign to make us give up our faith but they will never win," said Abdullatif at which point the crowd began chanting: God is Great.

"Only the Caliphate will be able to stop these insults. A state that reacts with the sword and not with words. A state that shows the price for insulting the Prophet."

"The time has come to end the silence and submission. Arise and establish a Caliphate that lives for the sake of Islam and defends the Koran, Muhammed and his sharia."

Intifada in Copenhagen ?

It would seem like Denmark is experiencing an intifada light these days - or rather nights. For the fifth night i a row smallish groups of Muslim immigrant "youths" have stirred up trouble in the streets of Copenhagen, setting fire to garbage containers and ambushing the firefighters.

At least that's how it started out, but now things seems to be getting out of hand.

The riots are spreading fast and are becoming more violent with "carbacues" and attacks on media reporting in the area. Trucks from DR TV and TV2 have been stoned and a photographer from Jyllands-Posten was wrestled to the ground and kicked in the head by half a dozen "youths."

Here's a small time line with thanks to TV2: (My excerpt.)

Feb. 9: The trouble starts when a garbage container is set ablaze and rolled out into the street in Nørrebro. Firefighters are attacked with rocks and needs police backup to put the fire out. All is calm again around midnight.

Feb. 10: Containers are set on fire as well as several cars and once again firefighters need police protection. The police uses teargas to disperse the vandals. 11 are arrested.

Feb. 11: More container-fires as well as bonfires in the street. The trouble spreads to Vesterbro - another neighborhood - two cars are burned. One arrest.

Feb. 13: The trouble has now spread all over Copenhagen. Two cars are set on fire in Vesterbro, four people arrested in conjunction with that crime. The neighborhoods and suburbs Tingbjerg, Ishøj, Rødovre and Taastrup are plagued by fires.
In Århus, Jutland a city bus is bombarded with rocks and have to be escorted out of danger by police.

Feb 14: In Tingbjerg four postal vans are set ablaze. An apartment building in Nørrebro has to be evacuated in the middle of the night as a fire nearby is threatening to spread. The power grid is sabotaged and an entire neighborhood is blackened out around 1 am.
All in all 17 people have been arrested for arson and disturbing the peace. 14 cars have been burned as well as 20 garbage containers. There are 14 reports of vandalism such as smashing store windows.

The excuse from the "youths" at the start up was that it was "unjust" that the cops picked on them at routine checks "only because we're colored!" Then came the thwarted assassination plot on the cartoonist Kurt Westergaard and the subsequent decision to deport two Tunisian nationals. This apparently was soooo unjust to the Muslim community that a carbeque seemed to be in in order.

The police is on high alert from now and on through the weekend. I wish it would rain cats and dogs, that should cool tempers, but alas it's going to be cold and clear tonight.

I realize this isn't anything like the riots in Paris last summer - heck this probably isn't anything like a normal night in Paris, but it's quite unusual in Denmark.

Murder Plot Against Cartoonist Foiled

A plot to murder one of the 12 cartoonists who published the Motoons, was foiled early this morning when police and the Danish Security and Intelligence Service arrested 3 persons in Århus - Denmark's second largest city and home to Jyllands-Posten's headquarters.

Early Tuesday morning, Danish police arrested several people with a Muslim background suspected of conspiring to kill Kurt Westergaard, a Danish cartoonist with Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten.

Kurt Westergaard is one of the 12 cartoonists who on 30 September 2005 published cartoons of Muslim prophet Mohammed.

The group arrested includes Danish as well as foreign citizens. The Danish Security and Intelligence Service have followed the group for months.

The cartoons and an explanatory article led, as is well known, to the so-called Mohammed crisis involving violent demonstrations, the boycott of Danish goods and the burning of Danish embassies.

Kurt Westergaard’s cartoon depicting the prophet wearing a bomb turban with a lit fuse attracted particular attention. What the cartoonist wanted to say with his cartoon was that many people exploit the prophet to legitimize terror. However, the cartoon was widely seen as a depiction of the prophet as a terrorist.

Note that there's no mention of religion in the article. Must be those dammed Methodists again.

One is a 40-year old Moroccan with Danish citizenship who will be released after interrogation, the other two are Tunisian nationals. They are being held until they can be expelled administratively as they are seen as a threat to national security. (You don't say...)

Security police said they didn't want to take any chances and moved preventive at an early stage after the group had been under surveillance for several months.

The target, Kurt Westergaard, 73, and his wife have had round-the-clock protection and have been forced to move around the last 3 months as the terrorists allegedly were plotting to assassinate him in his own home.

Al-Jazeera demands MoToon-apology - from Iceland !

The president of Iceland sits down for an interview with Al-Jazeera while on a trip to Qatar, and all of a sudden the journalist wants to know if Iceland will apologize for the Danish Cartoons:

Here is what president Grimsson said to radio Iceland about the interview:
”In fact he tried to put pressure on me regarding two things. He asked if I would apologize for the behaviour of the Danes, and if I would ask forgiveness for what they did, this insult, this provocation, this disgrace – he used very strong words – that the Danes had demonstrated with the publication of these caricatures. But of course this was not part of my responsibilities. And to tell you the truth I didn’t expect that this case was still alive and such a hot issue that the most important tv-station in the Arab world found it necessary to raise it during a visit by the president of Iceland, and they wanted to discuss it in detail.”

This thing just won't go away, will it.

MidEast terror-threats against Danish Election

Denmark is in the middle of an parliamentary election, and one of the parties, the outspoken anti-salafist Dansk Folkeparti (Danish Peoples Party or DPP) produced an ad in the beginning of the campaign:

Text reads: Freedom of speech is Danish,
censorship is not

Gates of Vienna covered it pretty well when the ad first appeared.
It is of course a reference to the Motoon-crisis Denmark went through last year. The drawing originates from a 400 year old translation of the Koran and you would think an old sketch like that would be incapable of hurting anyones feelings.

Never the less, the thought of someone picturing their precious prophet pisses your average Terrorist Joe off big time. So now the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades in Palestine, a group responsible for numerous suicide-attacks and assassinations on Israeli civilians, are threatening Denmark with retaliation.

This from the daily Jyllands-Posten: (link in Danish, my translation)

The Palestinian terror organization al-Aqsa Martyr Brigade is now directly warning DPP:
"This party is dealing with the blood of the Danish population," says a spokesman for al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade Khaled al-Jabbari who brings up the subject at an interview with Jyllands-Posten in Gaza

Is that a threat?
"No, it's not threat, it's warning. We do not want to see the Danish people as enemies, but this could push towards actions," he says and announces that he himself is ready to participate actively in actions against Danish institutions to defend the Prophet.

I'm not quite sure what "institutions" Mr. al-Jabbari is referring to. Surely he can't be talking about the Danish Foreign Ministry that has forked out 31 million US dollars of taxpayers money in less than ten years to the poor Palestinians.

But back to the story:

"I have heard that a Danish party is using the Mohammad drawings in its campaign and I have a message to the Danish people that this is the same as stabbing us in our hearts. They (the DPP) must be living on the moon to do something like this, for it is very insulting and not acceptable."

He warns that the brigade will put the DPP on it's list of enemies.

"They will not only be the enemy of the al-Aqsa Brigade, but to many Muslims," he says.

Needles to say, the leader of the DPP, Pia Kjærsgaard is outraged:

This is utterly insane, and we will under no circumstances bend to a terrorist organization. It is not us who have made the drawing, it's a 400 year old drawing of Mohammad that we use as a symbol of freedom of speech," she says.

Prime minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen (Liberal Party - liberal in the European sense of the word that is) is also outraged:

"It is of course completely unacceptable that a terror organization such as the al-Aqsa Brigade is attempting to intimidate Danish democracy," says Fogh and underlines that "we will in no way give in to that kind of pressure and influence from the outside."

Danish security police have heightened the overall protection of the campaigning politicians after the "warning" from al-Aqsa.

Funny thing though. Nowhere is it stated in the ad that it's Mo who is pictured. It could be Sheik Yerbouti for all al-Jabba the Hut knows.

Another Motoon crisis

This would be somewhat boring if it weren't for the terrible repercussions. An innocent cartoon published in a newspaper in Bangladesh led to the slaughter of nine Christians in Nigeria. (Hat tip: Kim Møller at Uriasposten)

This from Blogcritics Magazine:

Recently, a 20-year-old Bangladeshi Muslim cartoonist sketched a cartoon that appeared in a Bangla newspaper. It was intended to caricature the local culture where everyone tends to add “Muhammad” before their name. In the cartoon, when an elderly Muslim priest asks a little boy carrying a cat, what was its name; the boy answers, ‘Muhammad Cat.’ This created outrage among Bangladeshi Muslims. The leader of Khelafot Andolon (Caliphate Movement) Maulana Ashraf stated that: “the cartoon indicates disgrace of the Muslim prophet by naming a cat ‘Muhammad'. Similar to the Danish Cartoon incident prophet Muhammad has been defamed in Muslim majority Bangladesh.” The head cleric of Bangladesh’s National Mosque, said: "This is a grievous offense, this is dangerous."

But of course it is... Naming a cat after the most admirable man ever to have walked on the face of the earth... Blasphemy! Blasphemy I tell you!

I haven't been able to find the actual drawing, but according to this blogger the transcript of the heresy reads like this:

The text of the cartoon is a conversation between a boy and an aged person.

No wonder the religion of peace has its followers in an uproar.

But it gets a lot worse:

GENERAL Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Mr Samuel Salifu has condemned the killing of Christians in Tudun Dankande local government area of Kano State.

He called on the state government to bring the perpetrators to book, warning that Christians would no longer condone any attack on them.

Salifu who spoke with newsmen in Kaduna weekend said that reports reaching him from Kano state said there was trouble in Tudun Dankande local government area of the state Friday where nine Christians, including a youth corper serving in the area were killed and their property destroyed over an internet cartoon said to have emanated from a 20-year-old Muslim boy from Bangladesh.

"Information available to me is that almost all the churches within that local government area have been razed down and shops belonging to Christians had also been burnt including their houses. We have been told that they have been ejected and their property brought down and burnt.

Seems like the Christians in Nigeria has all about had it with all this insane violence:

He [Salifu] said Christians and their leaders were getting worried because both the Christian leaders and Muslims had been holding series of meetings within and outside the Nigerian Inter Religious Council (NIREC) to see how to bring about peaceful coexistence between followers of the two religions. Salifu regretted, however, that "the more we continue to meet with Muslim leaders the more some of these people attack our people.

"It is clear that the cartoonist is from Bangladesh and he is a Muslim, so why should they now visit their anger on Christians unless they are lunatics and if you call them this type of name, they say they are angry, but they go killing.

"They cannot control their anger, they take knives and slaughter. When you tell them what they are doing is wrong, they will turn round and start to kill. Very soon, there would be a lot of blood shed unless they stop this nonsense because the church is getting fed up.

The hapless cartoonist - needles to say, have been thrown in jail, the entire press in Bangladesh has apologized profoundly - needles to say to no avail, and meanwhile churches are burning in Nigeria, thousands of miles away.

These people are mad. As in frothing around the mouth mad. As in rabid. As in certifiable.

In these days, with the torrents of fatwa's and hailstorms of death threats, not to mention general grievance and self-pity from Muslims as reaction to various "insults" from Western infidels it's interesting to look back in history.
How did our forefathers react to the threat of Islam?

Well, Danish blogger Snaphanen brought my attention to one way of answering Muslim demands of submission.

Back in 1667, the Zaporozhian Cossacks defeated a Turkish army that had been sent in to the south of Russia. In spite of his defeat, the Turkish Sultan, Mehmed IV, sent a letter to the Cossacks, demanding their surrender.

The letter went like this:

As the Sultan; son of Muhammad; brother of the Sun and Moon; grandson and viceroy of God; ruler of the kingdoms of Macedonia, Babylon, Jerusalem, Upper and Lower Egypt; emperor of emperors; sovereign of sovereigns; extraordinary knight, never defeated; steadfast guardian of the tomb of Jesus Christ; trustee chosen by God himself; the hope and comfort of Muslims; confounder and great defender of Christians—I command you, the Zaporozhian Cossacks, to submit to me voluntarily and without any resistance, and to desist from troubling me with your attacks.

So, what were the Zapoes response? Well, first of all, they did not apologize for defeating the Sultan's invading army and thereby insulting the Religion of Peace. Their newspapers did not post editorials and op-ed's and commentaries demanding the resignation of the Government, large exporting companies did not bring full-page hand wringing adds in leading Muslim newspapers explaining how sorry they were for the insult to their customers.

Instead, the Cossacks looked at the rather pompous letter and decided to tell the Sultan to get stuffed.

A reply was written:

Zaporozhian Cossacks to the Turkish Sultan!

O sultan, turkish devil and damned devil's kith and kin, secretary to Lucifer himself. What the devil kind of knight are you, that can't slay a hedgehog with his naked arse? The devil shits, and your army eats. You will not, you son of a bitch, make subjects of Christian sons; we've no fear of your army, by land and by sea we will battle with thee, fuck your mother.

You Babylonian scullion, Macedonian wheelwright, brewer of Jerusalem, goat-fucker of Alexandria, swineherd of Greater and Lesser Egypt, Armenian pig, Podolian thief, catamite of Tartary, hangman of Kamyanets, and fool of all the world and underworld, an idiot before God, grandson of the Serpent, and the crick in our dick. Pig's snout, mare's arse, slaughterhouse cur, unchristened brow, screw your own mother!

So the Zaporozhians declare, you lowlife. You won't even be herding Christian pigs. Now we'll conclude, for we don't know the date and don't own a calendar; the moon's in the sky, the year with the Lord, the day's the same over here as it is over there; for this kiss our arse!

Quite an appropriate response if You ask me. Should be nailed on the walls in every Western Foreign Ministry.

Screw all this PC stuff and all this Sensitivity. Muslims are offended by seeing their Prophet in a drawing? So what else is new. Next case!

Don't Flash Swedish Flag in Swedish School Photo

Swedish dhimmitude at it's worst:

The principal of a Swedish school told pupils they couldn't be in the annual class photo when some of them turned up wearing Swedish National Football T-shirts. The reason? It could send a signal of xenophobia and racism.

Swedish daily Sydsvanskan reports (link in Swedish, my translation):

Eighth graders at the "Strandskole" in Klagshamn [in the Malmö region] are not allowed to be in the photos for the school yearbook. - School photos are not suitable for political manifestations, says the Principal.

There's a football match between Denmark and Sweden this weekend, and the kids wanted to show their support for the Swedish team. However, the Principal, Pär Blondell, got worried that a handful of 14-year old boys showing the Swedish flag on a photo would be seen as a display of "xenophobia and intolerance", something the school has a policy against.

Sydsvenskan have been talking to some of the boys, who seems to posses a lot more common sense than their Principal:

We meant no harm. And we had no idea that it could be perceived as racism. We have a lot of friends with immigrant background, says of of the boys to Sydsvenskan.

How can it be racist to wear a national football jersey, another pupil ponders.

The Principal will now discuss the situation with the pupils and their parents.

What can be seen as racism and xenophobia is a gray area. My decision can be perceived as intolerant. But it was the pupils who made this choice. I do not think it was a wise choice. And as a parent I don't think it was a good choice. And as a student - five years from now, I probably wouldn't think it was a wise choice, says Principal Pär Blondell

Bad choices... Five years from now.... He makes it sound like the kids where caught smoking in the boys room.

Anyway, here's a xenophobe racist who doesn't mind showing the Swedish colors on his shirt:

Zlatan Ibrahimović, one heck of a football player. Born in Malmö as the son of a Croat mother and a Bosnian father.

This is a goal he scored while he was playing for Ajax Amsterdam (Wearing number 9). He's also on the Swedish national team playing against Denmark on Saturday. Can you blame a kid for wearing a jersey his hero's also wearing?

Riots in Copenhagen - Again

Last night Nørrebro - a part of Copenhagen - was once again set ablaze by youths protesting their eviction from The Youth House six months ago. The young people who calls themselves "autonome" are part of the extreme and violent left wing fringe.

They used to have a house borrowed by the Municipality of Copenhagen, but after scores of riots and demonstrations the City sold the house and had the police clear it. The youth didn't leave peacefully to say the least, and last night was a reenactment of the vandalizing and looting by by about a thousand protesters.

The protesters were reinforced by gangs of young Muslims according to press.

Police responded with teargas to spread the crowd

Footage from the looting and vandalizing of two ordinary supermarkets has been uploaded by the daily "Ekstra Bladet" here.

"Multi-nationals" such as McDonalds and 7-Eleven are frequently and ritually smashed in that part of town as they are seen as symbols of global capitalism, but this time the victims included a lingerie shop, a coffee shop and a Pet store as can be seen here.

This last one shows locals desperately putting out fires before it spreads to parked cars.
The man being interviewed basically says: "What do I think of this? I think it's all f*cked-up! (Sorry, but that's what he says).
The policeman who later shows up apologizes for the lack of fire fighters, but "they have there hands full all over the place!"

All in all, a busy night for the cops. And a busy day for the shop owners cleaning up the ruins of their livelihood. Some of the arrested were as young as 13. Nice job by the parents.

Needless to say, the socialists at City Hall are demanding that the City give the vandals a house. Only that will stop the violence, the logic goes. Well, I for one can think of a suitable house. I believe Alcatraz is uninhabited at the moment.

Chef won't serve Halal meat at Muslim wedding, gets reported for racism

First a little necessary background, so please bear with me:

In Denmark we have a quite well-known female Islamist, Helen Latifi, who came to Denmark as a toddler and is now a med-student and a voice in the debate. She is a board member of an organization called Muslims in Dialog, an offspring of Minhaj-ul-Quran. On the board is also Abdul Wahid Pedersen, one of the traveling Imams stirring up trouble in the Mid-East last year.

Helen Lafiti is about to get married (congrats!) with the Secretary General of Muslims in Dialog, Noman Malik.

The happy couple decided to order food for the wedding at a renowned restaurant, owned by the chef Ralf Dyrensborg. Alas, there was a minor dispute over the menu. Apparently the chef refused to prepare Halal meat for the party. According to Latifi's blog (link in Danish) there was an argument ending with the chef saying "I'm not serving any sh*tty Halal meat for You!". That's Helen's story anyway.

The cook, not surprisingly has an other version (link in Danish):

I'm in no way a racist. I only expressed, that I would not serve Halal meat at the party!

Of course, chef's are supposed to be flamboyant, if not downright eccentric. One does not simply buy his food, one also buys his attitude and his love for cooking.

So, how does a Muslim "dialogist" react to this? Does she engage in a dialog with the guy? Does she say "OK, that's your opinion, and you're entitled to it. I'll just find another restaurant and take my business there!"

Are you kidding? Of course not. As true "moderates", she and her spouse-to-be reported this incident to the police, claiming to be victims of racism! The knee-jerk reaction of Muslims: You're telling me I can't have it my way? Then you're a bigot and a racist and should be crushed under your own laws!

So now the police will have spend time, manpower and money investigating this "case". No matter what the outcome of the investigation, this "case" will show up on the score card when Denmark is scrutinized by the EUMC, Amnesty International, Humans Rights Watch and myriads of other more or less self-proclaimed "Watchdog" organizations.

For Denmark, there's no way to win:

Should the police decide not to investigate further? Bad: The reports will show Danish police to be a bunch of Mississippian rednecks.

The DA brings it to the courts.
DA loses: Bad: The judges are obviously xenophobic.
DA wins: Bad: The case proves that there is a disturbingly amount of Islamophobia in the Danish population (Damn right there is!) and the government should take action to suppress it, otherwise...

Set, game and match: Muslims 1 Danes 0.

Ransom demand from pirates

8 Million DKK to be exact (1.5 million USD).

It's been 50 days since the caper of the Danish freighter Danica White was boarded by Somali pirates in international waters off the coast of Somalia.

The five Danish crew members where forced to sail the vessel into Somali waters, where they have been held hostage ever since.

It has now been published that the kidnappers have demanded 8M DKK for the release of the ship an her crew.

Problem is, the shipping company doesn't have that kind of money according to Danish TV2 (link in Danish.)

The company has major debts and only have around 1.5 million kroner in the cash registry. And the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will not fork out for fear of encouraging more piracy.

So the company can't pay and the Danish State won't. Which leaves a third option: Send a group of Danish SEALS and make an example. Next time a pirate captain sees a vessel with a Danish flag he'll back off. Not worth your life!

Kindergarten to be closed

The city of Copenhagen has decided to close the kindergarten Salem as it have been impossible to find a new management after the Hizb-ut-Tahrir take-over.

From Jyllands-Posten (link in Danish): "It was hard enough to find the one candidate who was interviewed today [who didn't get the job, ed] In the long run it would irresponsible to continue without a manager an a trained staff. We will do our utmost to insure that the children can proceed in other kindergartens", says Bo Asmus Kjeldgaard. [The mayor in charge]

Note the plural in kindergartens. The kids will be spread out on several institutions, nullifying the Hizb takeover. At least they get something right from time to time in City Hall.

Hitzb ut-Tahrir takes over Danish kindergarten

From the Danish daily Berlinske Tidende: The extreme Islamic organization Hizb ut-Tahrir recently took control over a kindergarten on Nørrebro (a neighborhood in Copenhagen with many Muslims.) The Hizb demanded that the children should not be brought up learning about democracy.

The parents have also demanded a ban on boys and girls playing together and last year furious parents demanded that the children cut up their Christmas elf caps [the caps were seen a a Christian symbol]

Some of the parents stressed that the children where not allowed to draw people or animals and they were not allowed to sing and dance. Much was "Haram". The children were forbidden to walk trough the Christian Assistens Cemetery [a last resting place for a lot of famous Danes, from Hans Christian Andersen and Niels Bohr to Ben Webster ed.] and they where not allowed to frequent curtain parks and beaches, as they risked seeing undressed people.

Here's the good news: The two-man Danish leadership have resigned in protest and the Municipality of Copenhagen have put the kindergarten under strict supervision and has cut it's funding according to the Mayor in charge.

You know, the next time I hear another Halal-Hippie state the argument that it's the ethnic Dane's responsibility that many Muslims aren't better integrated in the Danish society, I swear I'll bitch-slap him!

[new principles] stressed that the children should be brought up respecting equality and in a democratic spirit. (...) That triggered remarks [from the Hizb] that such principles would only lead to homosexuality and masturbation.

Chaos in Court

A large group of Turks created havoc in a Danish court when the jury acquitted a young Lebanese man of homicide.

This from Copenhagen Post:

The acquittal of a man suspected of stabbing another to death got friends and family member of the victim to rush the suspect and court representatives

A 21 year-old man was found not guilty of murder in an Århus court Tuesday, resulting in friends and family members of the victim leaping over the courtroom railings in an effort to attack the accused, the judge and the jury.

Up to 50 of the victim's supporters threatened to kill the defendant and had to be restrained by the five police officers on the scene, who used truncheons and pepper spray against the mob while reinforcements were called in. Chairs and other objects were thrown at the police and court participants by the angry group, several of whom were arrested.

`It was like a tsunami wave rolling over the railing,' said Judge Peter Lilholt, who presided over the case.

The man acquitted, a Lebanese Dane, had been charged with stabbing 21 year-old Turk Murat Karabulut to death during a brawl outside an Århus pizzeria 7 June last year. Despite a mountain of circumstantial evidence, the prosecution lacked the murder weapon and had only witness statements from the other group involved in the altercation and a purportedly missing getaway car.

It was not the first time family members to Karabulut caused trouble for the police, as a similar but less destructive demonstration took place at the suspect's preliminary hearing last June.

After the incident, the victim's family members reiterated threats outside the courthouse that they would kill the acquitted man.

Murat Karabulut was on parole from prison when he was stabbed, having done time for assault and robbery.

"Dane" gets 42 months (no, not years) for inciting terrorism

Said Mansour was today sentenced three years and six months imprisonment for inciting to terror by the Copenhagen City Court. From The Copenhagen Post (link in English):

A Danish national born in Morocco was found guilty on Wednesday of inciting terrorism.

The Copenhagen City Court handed Said Mansour a prison sentence of three years and six months, claiming he spread propaganda that encouraged radical Islamist groups to commit terror acts.

Police accused Mansour of being in contact, for example, with the four young men from Glostrup, who were recently tried for planning a terror act in Denmark.[The Jurors found all four guilty but the judges annulled the verdict and only sentenced one of the defendants. Prosecution is still pondering whether to appeal. Ed.]

During Mansour's trial, which began in September 2005, prosecuting attorney Lone Damgaard presented the court with hundreds of videotapes and CD-ROMs confiscated from the defendant's apartment which documented various terrorist acts and showed Americans being decapitated.

The prosecution also established that Mansour had been in close contact with Omar Abdelrahman, the blind sheik who received a 240-year prison sentence for the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center.

It's not the first time Mansour make the headlines. Back in 2005, The Washington Post did a piece on Denmark's anti-terror legislation, interviewing Mansour as a case. (It's not a bad article, well worth reading, actually)

I'm really not to sure what to think of this case.

One the one hand, it's good that the Court has drawn a line in the sand. On the other hand, the prosecution wanted Mansour to be stripped of his Danish citizenship so he could get deported (something Copenhagen Post fails to mention) . This he was not, on the grounds that he has "strong ties" to Denmark (He's wife is a Dane and they have four kids attending school) and that he faces a "grave risk" of getting killed if he returns to Morocco.

Well I have strong ties to Denmark, and I face a grave risk of getting blown to smithereens on the subway because Said Mansour can continue to spread his hate-speech and violent propaganda from the sanctuary of his "home" country. Not to mention, that the said country have been feeding him for years. WaPo:

His wife is a public school teacher, but Mansour said he was unemployed and collected a monthly government welfare benefit of about $1,800.

With the time already done in custody and the usual deduction for good behavior, heck, Mansour could be out this time next year.

May the prosecution appeal and may the Higher Court judges have some very bad hangovers when they hand out the sentence.

Lest we forget

On this day, the 9'th of April 1940 Denmark was assaulted and occupied by Nazi-Germany in Operation Weserübung, which also included the invasion of Norway.

The attack took Denmark by complete surprise and even though the army had been all but demobilized and equipped with obsolete weaponry, the army never the less resisted for a few hours at the border, loosing 16 men. The Germans have never made official their casualties, but it was at least a couple of dozens.

One of the brave young soldiers was Anker Jørgensen (not in the picture) who later became Prime Minister of Denmark (and an absolute disaster at that, but that, as they say, is another story.)

Simultaneously, the airfield of Aalborg was captured by German paratroopers and Copenhagen was overrun by troops landing in the harbor. A panicky and desperate Danish government agreed to meet the capitulation terms while hearing the sounds of small-arms fire as the outnumbered Royal Guards opened up on the invaders and the droning of heavy bombers circling the capital, waiting for the orders to unleash their deadly cargo in case of any further resistance.

Denmark's status during the war was an unusual one. She wasn't annexed and neither was she fully occupied, but remained a semi-autonomous country until 1943 when the government stepped down under the pressure of an ever-growing popular resentment (and the realization that the tide of war was turning against Germany, but in '43 it was still touch an go). One of the German responses was to arrest the Danish police and sending them to Buchenwald. I mention this, because my late father was one of those unfortunates. He was miraculously saved in the last weeks of the war by Folke Bernadotte's white buses. My dad never grew tired of praising Bernadotte, certain as he was he would not have lived to see the end of the war, had he not been evacuated from the horror of the camps.

My salute on this day goes to the men who, knowing full well any fight would be futile, fought none the less.

Nazi Denmark?

A week ago, Flemming Rose, the cultural editor of Jyllands-Posten received the Free Press Society's award for his decision to print the Muhammad Cartoons and for "sticking to his guns" despite receiving death-threats from islamo-fascists in the after wake as the prize comity put it.

The event did evoke a few headlines abroad, such as this one from British Guardian (log-on). A short, no-nonsense report of the fact.

However, in dhimmified Sweden the reporting was a bit different. In his speach, the chairman of the Free Press Society, Lars Hedegaard, had compared calls for Rose and Jyllands-Posten to apologise for the cartoons to those calling for appeasement towards Nazi Germany before the second world war. That remark prompted this headline in Swedish tabloid Expressen [Link in Swedish, translation mine]:

In Denmark Islam is now compared with Nazism

The journalist end his (quite neutral actually) piece by qouting one Adb al Haqq Kielan, spokesman for the "Swedish-Islamic Union".
Mr. Kielan waste no time in bringing out the old worn-out violin:

It's not like Muslims are invading Denmark with tanks. The Muslims in Denmark are a vulnerable minority and they where hurt by Flemming Rose's idea.

During WW2 Sweden received hundreds of young Danish freedom fighters on the run from Gestapo and allowed them to receive military training, they took in thousands of Danish Jews, who had been smuggled across the sound separating our two nations. Back then, Sweden stood up against the Nazis. And now when Denmark are trying to stand up against another totalitarian ideology suddenly we are the Nazis!

What the heck happened?

How not to integrate immigrants

Exile has put up a must-read post regarding a recent OECD report titled The Labour Market Integration of Immigrants in
Denmark, and in the process of vivisectioning said report, Exile found and commented on this paragraph:

Labour market outcomes for immigrants have been significantly below those of the native-born
for more than two decades. This is partly attributable to the fact that immigration to Denmark has been
strongly dominated by refugees and family reunification – groups whose labour market outcomes tend to
be not as good as the native-born or economic migrants in all countries, particularly in the early years of
settlement.

Exile has this to say on OECD's newspeak:

They are correct in the statement that immigration has been strongly dominated by refugees and family reunification. Read "economic refugees". I emphasise that point by referral to the next point concerning welfare benefits; "...Denmark’s relatively high social benefits". In other words, if you don't want to work, you can make a healthy living by importing your family and having many children. More dependents, more money.

Exactly! Which brings me to this post.

I work as a blue-collar laborer and earn around 20,000 (roughly 3600 US Dollars) Danish Kroner a month, which isn't all that bad. (Then again, that leaves me with less than 11,000 Kr's after the tax-man produced first his pistol and then produced his rapier and robed me blind. Not that I mind, though. I'm sure the the nice men and women in the administration are doing a lot of good with my money. But I digress.)

Recently, a gentleman from abroad was presented to me by my boss: Could I please see if the man i question could perform well in an ordinary job? He had been sent by the municipality in an effort to take him off the dole, and the firm I work for had agreed to see what they could do. As a faithful employee, I naturally took on this assignment.

The gentleman turned out to be of somewhat lesser quality than the other colleague's I work with: He was constantly ill, couldn't do this, couldn't do that, every other day he would ask for time off to go to hospital examinations. He had been a policeman in Afghanistan, and for all I know, he could be suffering from PTSD, that's not the point. If he's sick, he's sick and should be treated for whatever ailment he may be suffering. But as the foreman in charge, I soon had to let him go.

No, the really bizarre thing is this: After having been granted asylum some years ago, the former member of Kandahar's Finest brought his wife and a herd of children to Denmark as was his right under the Re-Unification Act. The municipality installed him in an apartment with room for a pony, not to mention the kids, and have been covering his needs ever since by forking out 24,000 Kr's each and every month. The income he may earn in any new job will be deducted from this sum, which may or may not have been have been one reason for his deteriorating health.

I'd like to stress that it's not the behavior of this individual I find perplexing. On the contrary!

My question is this: Can anyone please explain to me, why an immigrant would find it attractive to find a job to support his family, contribute to his new society by paying taxes etc. and find pride in standing on his own two feet, while in the process loosing at least half his previous income?

If anyone can, please let me know. There may be an open slot as Minister of Integration in the Danish government.

Powder-scare at Jyllands-Posten (Now deemed harmless)

Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten received a letter with a suspicious powder today.

My translation:

Monday Jylands-Posten received a letter containing a powder. The letter is now being investigated by the police, Tage Clausen from the paper informed today.

All letters are opened by special staff in the mail room before further distribution. This has been standard procedure since Jyllands-Posten recived two letters containg powder in February 2006.

Danish Emergency Management Agency have worked since Monday morning investigating the letter and isolating the three post handlers who where in contact with the substance.

Most likely this a prank, but it's not a very funny joke. I'll post more when I know more.

Update: 16:30: A sample of the powder has been sent to Stockholm, Sweden, and the result is expected tomorrow, Tuesday. The three postal workers are in good spirits and are kept under medical observation.

Update: Tuesday 17.30: The powder has been deemed harmless by Swedish experts. "No biological hazard" was the verdict from the lab in Stockholm today, Tuesday.

So, it was a prank. However if the police gets the ones responsible, they will not get off with a slap on the wrist. So far, no news on who might be responsible. Must have been some very long hours for the mail handlers before the good news got back to them.

At an ordinary train station on an ordinary Mondy night

This is a story from an ordinary woman on an ordinary event taking place on an ordinary Monday evening. From Basilisken via Hodja.

Judging from her picture, Basilisken is an ordinary woman in her prime, just an another ordinary Danish woman on her way home - and then showing a great deal of heroism. I have tried my best not only to translate it but also to capture some of the atmosphere of her story:

Wanted to take the local train on Hellerup [suburb of Copenhagen, ed.] Monday January 29 around ten PM. Passing five immigrant boys in the tunnel. They are shaking hands goodbye, the elder telling the youngest to take care. The three youngest starts to run, yelling they are about to miss the train. They must've missed it for they are sitting on a bench as I pass them [on the platform]. There is no one else present but us. I then feel two showers on my face, I'm thinking it cannot be possible they are spitting at me, but my doubts immediately disappears as they are having a barrel of laughs. I turn towards them and ask what they are doing. The oldest are sitting in the middle, and with a big grin he says nothing is going on. Something must have fallen from the roof, happens all the time - while the two youngest boys gleefully spits right in my face. I ask what their problem is and they spit again. I the lash out at one of them, he runs to the other side of me and kicks at my behind.

She returns to the tunnel and tries to call the police, but cannot get through. At this time she thinks the train must have pulled up at the platform, and she figures she will be safe on the train as there will be staff on-board.

As I am sitting down (at a distance) I see the boys rolling some newspapers into sticks and approach an elderly man who is sitting alone. Along with me, a young man (his name was "B" I'm later told) reacts. "B" very firmly grabs hold at the boys and get them to sit down. "Get my bag," he says; in his bag is his badge. The conductor is coming from the other end of the train, "B" tells me to ask him if he has called the police. Yes he has, as the boys have spend their idle time breaking windows. While "B" is searching their pockets (someone will be happy to get his mobile phone back) he tells me that they are three brothers, well known to the police and that they are frequently arrested, not only for mugging people, but also constantly stealing, break in and entering and vandalizing. Shortly thereafter four police officers enters. "Ah, them again". Only at this point does the boys stop their pleas that they have done nothing. Finally the train can depart. It is very unpleasant to sit in the train with a face full of spit. "B" says he will file a report, but that it won't do any good. The boys are all under 15, and the community and social workers aren't doing anything. Yesterday, when the boys where searched they had firearms. Whoops, I could have been shot.
A fellow passenger tells me: Don't be so negative.

Don't be so negative! Don't be so negative?? What the moron means is: don't be a racist. Well, he wasn't the one being spat in the face, now was he... perhaps next time it's his turn. Let's see how negative he will get when some juvenile punk kicks him in the arse.

Perhaps he will react in some extra-ordinary way like the brave basilisken. Then again, prolly not.

Editorial on Gore: A great man

This is really just an update on my last post.

Jyllands-Posten prints an editorial today titled "A great man" on Al Gore's refusal to be interviewed by Bjørn Lomborg and Flemming Rose, the culture editor of Jyllands-Posten. As usual, the link is in Danish, translation mine:

Al Gore is a great man. In fact, so great he came very close to become President of the United States of America.

He would then literally have ruled over life and death of individuals and nations and he would have had the largest military with the largest arsenal of nuclear weapons in the world at his disposal.

One would expect a certain amount of courage, strength and personal style. It is therefore fantastic to find that this great man doesn't dare to meet with a Danish statistician and therefore not a culture editor on a Danish paper.

It is fantastic that a Danish statistician can seem so terrifying to a man supposedly qualified to be president of the USA.

The explanation is of course that Gore is no more a fool than the next guy. He probably knows deep inside that his claims about the miserable state of the planet is thinly based, and that a meeting with Bjørn Lomborg would be a mental striptease. His nonsense work and exaggerated terror-scenarios would be ripped apart without mercy.

Apparently Bjørn Lomborg is so frightening that Al Gore didn't even dare to meet with a culture editor who had met Lomborg. Perhaps the statistician would have provided the editor with some annoying questions.

It can hardly be anymore pathetic than this.

Lomborg and Rose yesterday published an article in Wall Street Journal on the matter, however I can't find a link to it.

Al Gore refuses to meet Bjorn Lomborg

First of all my apologies for the quiet around here lately.

Anyway, the Danish Paper Jyllands-Posten reports that Former Vice President Al Gore who is spending a couple of days in Denmark on his seemingly endless Inconvenient Truth-Tour, Still won't debate with Bjørn Lomborg, who has criticized Gore for dealing with on subject in an alarmist way. (Gore's visit immediately triggered the Gore Effect, making an unusually mild Danish winter into a typical one with around-zero temperatures, chilling rain and hail and a freezing storm smashing into northern Europe.)

But back to the issue at hand. From Jyllands-Posten: (link in Danish, translation mine):

Bjørn Lomborg, together with Jyllands-Postens culture editor Flemming Rose [the man who got the idea and together with chief-editor Carsten Juste decided to publish the Motoons] were supposed to have interviewed Al Gore on Thursday. However, though his agent Wylie Agency in London, Al Gore announced Wednesday that the presence of Bjørn Lomborg was unwanted.

"This is not the first time this has happened. Several people have tried unsuccessfully to set a dialog-meeting between the two of us. It is deeply troublesome that he doesn't dare to be challanged and only want to speak to his followers", says Bjørn Lomborg.

The agent and Flemming Rose subsequently agreed that the interview would be done by Rose alone and that the subject would be the book and the movie.

However, an hour later Flemming Rose received an e-mail from the agent with the wording:

"We regret to announce that we have to cancel the interview."

No reason was giving but when the editor contacted the agent by phone, the agent said the cancellation was due to the fact that Lomborg had even been part of the process.

According to Bjørn Lomborg he's willing to debate Al Gore on global heating any time and anywhere.

So after more than a thousand lectures on "an inconvenient truth" Gore still won't meet an inconvenient opponent. Guess it must be easier to be a politician with that attitude.

Danish Jews harrased by Muslims

I have mentioned this subject before and today Jyllands-Posten has a feature about the growing fears of the Jewish population in Danmark. (Link is a small excerpt in Danish, my translation)

The international tensions between Jews and Muslims are reflecting in the Danish society. Danish Jews fell intmidated by the Muslims and are afraid to reveal their identity when walking the streets of Copenhagen.

Jewish parents choose not to send their children to public schools with a large percentage of children with Muslim background, and outside the synagoge in Copenhagen the security guards are asking the attending jews to remove their scullcaps and Star of Davids before leaving the temple.

- There is a fear among Jews for the Muslim minority. They are afraid of beeing harrased psysical and verbally, says Jacques Blum, spokesman of the Mosiac Faithcommunity.

Karen Margrethe Grønlund is the scool principal at Klostervængets Skole on Nørrebro [a communnity in Copenhagen] where 93 percent of the pupils have an other ethnical background than Danish. She would like to see Jewish children attending her school. She wellcomes them, but knows they can be in for a rough time.

- We cannot remote-contrile the childrens behavoir. They cannot seperate the conflict in Palastine from what is going on in the school.Children are little parrots, who mimics the talk of the grown-ups about the Lebanon war and it was all the Jews fault again, she says.

She has once recomended to a teacher that he hid his Jewis identity for his own sake.

- It was a Jewish teacher hwo applied for a job here. I advised him not to use his Jewish-sounding name if he accepted the position He ended up saying no the the job, Karen Margrethe Grønlund say.

This is depressing. We have the Middle East conflicts re-enacted in the school yards and peacefull citicens are harrased in the the streets by Muslim sturm-troopers.

Religious terror against moderate muslims at Danish university

It appears that a smal group of hard-core muslim girls are terrorising the more moderate young women at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU).

According to Salihah Marie Fettah some of the girls have recived SMS-trheats like "You will end up in Hell if you don't wear a headscarf."

"Lately, there has been a serious debate between the students if it is permissible for a Muslim to lie to or slander al-kufar, or the infidels as they name all non-muslims. They are dividing the world into "us" and "them"", says Salihah Marie Fettah

Besides the more theoligical discussions the moderate girls are olso on the recieving end of a more direct approach from the radicals:

"It's also about the way they dress. They [the moderates] are not allowes to wear tight jeans or t-shirts or to dress in strong colors. They cannot listen to music, because the it is forbidden according to Islam. This have restrained several of the moderate girls from attending social gatherings because this group has warned against participating" Fettah said.

The scary thing is, that these radicals should by all standards be well-integrated into the Danish society. They are born and raised in Danmark, speak fluently Danish and are in the midst of a university education. And yet, they find together in some sort of Talabanish fellowship.

They do not themselves see what they are doing as bullying. They see it as a religious duty, and they believe that are actually trying so save the other girls from going to Hell.

At least one girl has quit and several others are considering to change to another study, according to Fettah.

Thankfully, Søren Askegaard, the leader of the Arabic-studies, where the problem is most visible has this to say:

It's difficult to do anything about it as it is going on in the private communication between the students. But of course, if the problem have consequenses for the students, we will have to consider how to handle it.

Denmark has nothing to be ashamed of

Denmark has been getting a lot heat over the past years, the MSM describing her as xenophobic, borderline racist and for shutting down the borders to refugees.

Well, another myth is now shot down. (From the dead tree edition of Jyllands-Posten, apparantly not online.)

The UNHCR has published a report (PDF), which shows that Denmark is the country in Europe that takes in most refugees compared to the number of inhabitants. (Click on image to enlarge)

You will note that Denmark is ranked as #10, with the top nine all being countries in the vicinity of major conflicts. However, Denmark is listed well ahead of countries like the UK (#18) and Canada (#33)
Sweden - probably the country that have been the most indignant at Denmark - is ranking at a miserable number 17.

We are of course talking about refugees here, not immigrants (though many of the former will end up beeing the latter) wich is quite another matter. People fleeing from persecution is entitled to help, and I am actually quite proud that Denmark ranks so high on that list.

Perhaps the Swedes could be persuaded do their bit as well...

Jews in Denmark - is there something rotten?

Efraim Zuroff, the Israel Director at the Simon Wiesenthal Center Has a piece in Jerusalem Post about the current situation of jews in Denmark at the moment:

Upon arriving in the center of Copenhagen after an absence of a few years, one can immediately sense the palpable changes in the makeup of the population. Lily-white, blond Denmark has absorbed almost 200,000 Muslim immigrants from south Asia and north Africa over the past two decades and their physical presence is fairly pronounced in the streets of the capital; whether it is women and teenagers with various head-coverings, individuals whose skin color stands out in comparison to the rest of the local population, or the numerous fast-food stands selling shishlik and/or shishkebab.

Their arrival and the growing Islamic militancy of segments of this population have led to a worrying increase in anti-Semitic incidents in a country in which such incidents were practically unthinkable a few years ago. Jewish children are often the object of taunting and harassment by Muslim neighbors and there has been increasingly strident anti-Zionist rhetoric by local Muslim leaders in response to events in the Middle East.

Med Ryggen Mod Murren[sic!] - With our Backs to the Wall - was the name of a day-long conference on anti-Semitism which I was invited to address. It reflects the deep angst among local Jews and supporters of Israel. Held in a hall in Christianborg, the Danish parliament, the program featured presentations on a wide range of topics related to contemporary anti-Semitism worldwide, Israel-bashing and Holocaust denial; but the dominant undercurrent was one of deep concern regarding the local situation.

Zuroff got the spelling wrong on the Danish word for "the wall" - muren, but he stumbled on another, perhaps much more appropiate word - "murren" which means a low rumbling of discontent, something one would experience in the streets just before a (potentially violent) uprising.

On a visit to a friend who lives in the relatively tranquil suburb of Albertslund, my host, by no means a coward, warned me not to make eye-contact with a group of Muslim youths hanging out on a street corner on our way to his home. He also insisted on accompanying me back to my hotel since "People wearing a kippa are not necessarily safe these days in the city center."

Albertslund is not a relatively tranquil suburb [of Copenhagen] It has been a muslim ghetto for decades with very violent confrontations between the immigrants and the by now rather few Danish inhabitants.

Non the less, there is a growing problem with anti-semitism in Denmark. It is, however, a problem that is entirely rooted in the muslim population. Ethnic Danes are not jew-haters.

Egyptian poll: Denmark is second-most hostile

A poll in Egypt has revealed, that 92 percent of all egyptians agrees, that Israel is hostile toward Egypt. 60 percent agreed that Denmark is hostile, followed by Britain leaving the US at a measly fourth place!

Damn I'm proud to be Danish! More cartoons, please. And find a way to publish them on Al-Jazeera. We're heading for the gold!

And right now, the Egyptian vice minister of tourism is visiting Denmark, desperatly trying to get more Danes to spend their vacation in Egypt. In 2004, 180.000 Danes traveled to Egypt, a number that dropped to 103.000 last year.

So we may be a bunch of sacrilegious infidels, but our money doesn't smell.

KUWAIT CITY: Copies of a booklet were distributed among worshippers during the Friday prayers at many mosques around Kuwait highlighting the speech of Pope Benedict XVI. The eight-page booklet was titled ‘The stance of the devotees of the Merciful towards the Vatican Pope’s statements.’ The cover has a picture of the Pope with arms raised towards the skies, and the words Norway and Denmark written on each elbow. The Pope’s picture has the face covered with fire rising from his body and lightning striking him and the Vatican flag placed on his head.

The booklet, whose author and publisher remained anonymous, was seen by people as an attempt not only to provoke Muslims in Kuwait to continue to boycott Western products, but to increase hatred towards Christians. The booklet is divided into sections. The leaflet begins with the following: A majority of Muslims are convinced that the apologies received after the Danish cartoons mocked the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) were sufficient, so they put their minds at ease and stopped their boycott. Yet this offense was soon followed by another, when Pope Benedict XVI — father of those calling for infinity — was quoted as saying a few weeks ago, ‘Just show me what he gave the world that is new, and you will find only evil and inhuman things, such as his order to spread by the sword the faith he preached’.

The fourth section of the booklet demonstrates the continuing attacks on Islam, Muslims and the Prophet (PBUH) by Denmark. It said the Danish TV channel presented a program called ‘The Ugliest Drawing’ which is specialized in insulting Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). Those who lose in this show have to wear a ‘veil’, “which is further demeaning to Muslims.” The closing chapter asks: ‘What Muslims should do?’ and this has been summarized in four points — hate those offenders, do their best to back Islam and defend its Prophet, continue boycott of Western products and pray for their destruction.

Needles to say, there has been no such TV program. Again one of those typical lies, that islamist need to spice up their hate-speach.

But if wearing a veil is "demeaning" to muslims, why to they insist on it so whole-heartedly?

Jyllands-Posten cleared in motoon suit

Not a real surprise, but it's allways nice to see the system work. Jylland-Posten, the paper that printed the motoons was acquitted today of racism in a civil lawsuit filed by among others The travelling Imams from the Islamic Faith Community.

From the Copenhagen Post:

Two editors of Jyllands-Posten newspaper have been acquitted of racism charges stemming from its publication of 12 drawings of the prophet Mohammed in September 2005.

Seven Muslim organisations had charged editor in chief Carsten Juste and culture editor Flemming Rose with racism in civil suit.

The court said the organisations had not proven that the drawings or the accompanying articles had intentionally offended Muslims.

The decision is the third time the Muslim organisations have had their efforts to have the newspaper charged with racism turned down by the courts. They will appeal today's decision.

Appealing is fine, that's how things are done in a civilized society. You use the law and the system if you have a grievance. Perhaps the imams have learnt something.

Then again, maybe not. The Post missed out on this bit in Jyllands-Posten's mention of the matter: (Link in Danish, my trans.)

Imam Abu Laban and Kasem Ahmad from Islamic Faith Community will later thursday comment the verdict on Al-Jazeera.

That should be interesting.

"We respect the verdict, but we do not understand it and we do not understand why the muslim minority isn't better protected in Denmark, says spokesman Kasem Ahmad to Jyllands-Posten.

He expects the verdict to create unrest in the islamic world. However, he doesn't believe the court's decision will lead to violent reaction.

Now isn't that nice of him. Unrest but no violence. I guess that will depend on what he tells Al-Jazeera.

Prison imam fired

In my previous post I discussed some of the merrits of Abu Bashar, one of the traveling imams and prison-imam in Nyborg State Prison. Well, it seems the authorities has finally have had enough of him. He has now been sacked from Nyborg State Prison, officially due to cutbacks, unofficially because he radicalized young muslim inmates.

From the Danish paper 24timer (link in Danish PDF. My translation):

The controversial prison imam Abu Bashar has been fired. Officially the explanation is that the prisons need to save millions, and that the choise have been made to lay off the imam by january 31. next year.
But high ranking sources in Nyborg Prison has told 24timer that the cutback's has been a more than wellcome excuse to get rid of the imam. According to the sources he has been "spred propaganda against the West" and "encouraged Jihad" on the friday sermons in the prison where one out of three inmate is a muslim.

"He is not a civil servant can therefore be laid off faster. Because of the latest cutbacks we have thus decided to close the job as we are not legally obligated to have an iman employed," says warden Arne Thornvig Christensen.(...)

Abu Bashar is of course calling his dismissal "political" (what did he expect?) and swears he's just doing his job de-radicalizing muslim inmates.

Right, that makes sense...

Nyborg State Prison is holding some of Denmark's most dangerous and professional criminals, including several Hells Angels hitmen. And a third of the inmates are muslims? Not bad for a country with an overall muslim minority of about five percent.

I mean, you're not sent to Nyborg just for running a red light.

Who is this Imam?

There is something fishy going on here. Either that or the Danish Intelligence Service is dhimmitized at the top.

Tuesday night at two a.m. the police arrested nine young men in the ghetto Vollsmose in Odense, Demnark's third largest city. The men, aged from 17 to 33 are all muslims (one is a Danish convert) are suspected of planning a terrorist action and the police believed an attack was eminent. After a 12 hour long preliminary hearing the low court judge imprisoned two of the defendants for four weeks (that was appealled by the defence) and opheld the arrest of five others for three days, while two where released..

So far so good. Now here's the strange part: Police say they informed the leading imam in Vollsmose just prior to the operation and that he was present at some of the arrests.
(I suppose the next time the cops crack down on organized crime, say the Hells Angels, they'll wake up the Bishop of Copenhagen in the middle of the the night and have him present at the arrests. Then again, probably not. But I digress.)

Now, this cleric is not just anybody. His name is Mohamad Al-Khaled Samha, also known as Abu Bashar. He works as a prison imam in the maximum security prison Nyborg Statsfængsel, and is known for his radical views on Islam. (Rumor has it that the prison is in effect taken over by the muslim inmates, but I don't have the contacts to confirm that.) Bashar was born in Syria and has spent the last 12 years in Denmark and have gained Danish citizenship.

He is a leading member of The Islamic Faith Community and was one of the Travelling Imams who through their lies and desceptions sparked the Mohammed cartoon-crisis earlier this year. He showed the infamous "Pig Picture" as "proof" of the apartheitnesque enviroment in Denmark.

There is some sort of link between him and the German would-be train bombers: Abu Bashar's phone number was stored on one of the German suspects cellphone and he had a train ticket to Odense, when he was apprehended in Kiel, a few miles from the Danish border. Danish Intelligence Service (PET) dismisses any connection between the Germans and the arrests in Denmark. Abu Bashar says he have not been questioned by PET on the issue, and that his "number is in the book and anyone can look it up"!

The day before the Odense arrests he stated that Denmark is a natural target for terror because of the Motoons and the Danish presence in Iraq. (Link in Danish)

I worry that a terror-atack might be targeted at Denmark because there are Danish soldiers in Iraq and I worry what Al-Qaida might do if Denmark does not pull the troops home.

I may be paranoid, but that sounds a lot like a go-ahead order to me.

So, summing up, what we have here is a man who has commited high treason by travelling through the Mid-east showing off false cartoons in order to stir up trouble against his new homeland (he should have tried doing that to his old homeland, Syria; Assad would have him in front of a firing squad within 24 hours. But then of course Bashir knows that.) He's somehow linked to a terrorist plot in Germany, if nothing else one of the terrorists knew him. He knows some of the arrested suspects in Odense, he was even present at their arrest, he is rumoured to de facto run the prison in Nyborg which is holding some of the most hard-core criminals in Denmark, and he is a well-known islamist.

And yet he is the very man PET chooses to cooperate with when he really should be locked up somewhere in a lightened cell, being forced to listening to Whigfield until he cracks! (personally I would would spill the beans within five minutes if I had to listen to Whigfield. I'm more of a Stones-man myself.)

So why is PET in bed with this scumbag? Perhaps it's part of some kind of divide-and-conquor strategy. One can only hope so.

Jyllands-Posten [Link in Danish] brings an excellent op-ed by Bent Jensen professor in history (an expert on Soviet totalitarism) and renowned debator in Denmark especially on the dangers of Islamism.
A few abstract's in my humble translation:

European politicians are allways babling about "the conflict in the Middle-East" as if there was only this one conflict between Israel and the islamists. They have spoken so long and the media have been so one-sided that many - including Danes - apparently believes that Israel is the greatest threat to world peace.
The EU or "Europe's" policy in this part of the world is apalling. Danish companies such as the infamous Arla are signing deals with islamist states, promising that they will boycot Israel in return for selling thier products to nations determined to whipe out Israel. The Danish goverment and the EU sends billions to support regimes that day in and day out through newspapers, magazines, schoolbooks, radio and tv spreads darkened anti-semitism. Israeli and jews - islamist's doesn't destinguish - are decribed as traitors and the jewish nation as a cancer, the root cause of all the disasters in the world.

Danish politicians are participating in rallies where the machinegun banner of Hizbollh is flying. Right now, the Danish goverment is spending millions on a project that under the clishé's "Dialogue" and "bridge-building" really is nothing more than sucking-up and submission to islamist's regimes demanding that Israel should be outcasted.

Bent Jensen is referring to an ongoing festival, Images of the Middle East" in Denmark. It is partly sponsored by the Danish state, partly by private sponsors. The organizers came under criticism when they published an anthology. The Saudi sponsor demanded that no Israeli writers should be represented, and the festival caved in, their exscuse littereraly being that it was a choise between no Israel or no book and that it would be "a shame" not to publish the book.

The islamists calls the US and Israel The Great Satan and The Little Satan. At least some respect lies within these names. After all one fears Satan. I wonder what they will call the "Europe" that, like and old whore lies on her back and lets herself be raped by Islam?

Danish naval ship may be sent to Lebanon

Denmark might contribute with a Korvet if asked to participate in a UN-force, supposed to ophold the cease-fire in Lebanon.

If Denmark is to contribute, it is most likely that the navy get's the task, and that it will be solved by sending a korvet to patrol the Lebanese coast to stop gunrunning by sea.

That is the expectation in the administration, since the army is already stretched out with soldiers stationed in Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.

The opposition want the Danish troops in Iraq pulled out and deployed in Lebanon instead, but that idea is rejected by the goverment.

Another "honor" case in Denmark

Danish police have charged three persons of foreign background with threats and kidnapping of a 24-year old female family member, Berlingske Tidende reports (link in Danish). The police believe the girl was kidnapped by her father and is now being held against her will in Syria.

The charged are the girl's mother, her brother-in-law and her ex-husband - who also happens to be her cousin. The family wanted to force the girl to resume married life with her ex-husband/cousin.

The mother is among other things charged, together with her husband, of assaulting the girl on a daily basis and threatening her with a gun. The girl was kept locked up in the familie's apartment in Slagelse from the the spring of 2005 to june 2006.

The girl was then kidnapped to Lebanon and on august 2 forced to Syria.

After several hours of preliminary hearing the prosecuter had to release the family, but the charges are upheld.

This happened in the same town that witnessed the the brutal murder in broad daylight of the 18-year old Ghazala Khan in another so-called "honor" crime.

If you look at the dates, I don't think it's a coincidence that the girl in question was abductet to Lebanon in June 2006, the very month the Ghazala-trial was taking place, ending with very severe sentenses to nine persons.

After the guilty-as-charged verdict by the jury in the Ghazala-case, Manu Sareen, an integration consultant in Copenhagen said:

'This verdict will send shockwaves through all of Europe, and I'm sure that it will have a preventive effect,' said Sareen. 'Crimes such as 'honour killings' don't stop from one day to the next, but this is a clear signal.'

Not clear enough, one might add.

I'll keep an eye on this story and post any developments.

Poll: "Massive Danish support for Israel"

Good news update:

Berlingske Tidende a large Danish paper has asked Gallup to conduct a poll (link in Danish) on public opinion in Denmark on the outgoing conflict in the Mideast.

It turns out that Israel have great support in the Danish population. (my translation):

The Danes give Israel a firm pat in the back in a new poll concerning the now four-week long war against the Hizbollah militia. 57 percent thinks Hizbollah is to blame for the conflict, while only 37 percent points the finger at Israel.

At the same time nearly half of the Danes - or 48 percent - declare that their sympthies lies with Israel, while the Hizbollah is only backed up by 7 percent, most of whom also vote for the left.

Like I always said: Danes are a sensible people.

Why we are in Afghanistan

The Danish daily Berlingske Tidende prints a moral booster of an editorial (link in Danish) after a Danish soldier was severly wounded wednesday after being shot in the head and chest. He has since been brought back to Denmark and is still in a coma.

The piece headlined Ethics are good - Politics are better is of course directed at Danish readers, but it could easely be applied to anyone with fellow countrymen fighting in mountains and the desserts. This in an excerpt (my translation):

The sad news of the first seriously wounded Danish soldier from the NATO-force in Afghanistan naturally makes many ponder what Danish soldiers are even doing there. Why is Denmark at war in Afghanistan and other places? That is not only a relevant question, it is a good question, but the answer is not blowing in the wind. For there is an answer.

The war in Afghanistan is a consekvense of 9/11 and the new realization that the western civilization has mortal enimies. This cannot be said too often. Someone out there hates us - our values, our life style, our ironic-sarcastic mentality - even to the extent, that they will do anything in their power to kill or hurt us and our interests.

The easiest thing in the world is to pass UN-resolutions, demanding armistice here and now. But then what? The hardest thing to do is to make a realistic attempt using realistic means. And that is what Denmark and her allies are doing in Afghanistan.

If foreign politics only where a question of morals as some seem to think, then foreign policy would exclusively be about showing the most shining morality. But foreign policy is a mix of moral and realism, ends and means and without the latter, we would be at the mercy of those bragging of their superiour ethics.

Instead of the countless people flying the colors of ethics, we need more democratic goverments realizing that peace does not come through prayers, meek hopes or petitions, but raher through the showing of true guts and political skills.

Denmark have troops in Afghanistan and Iraq because the Danish goverment has realized that we cannot sit and wait for our enimies to come to us. Call it self-defence, call it preemption - it is realism in the form of concrete action, and we owe our soldiers our respect and our gratitude.

Amen to that!

Danish troops in Afghanistan under fire

From today's Berlingske Tidende (Link in Danish):

Presumed Taliban insurgents [sic!] fired upon the the Danish force in Afghanistan with handguns and mortars, the Danish Army reported.

The Danish troops at Musa Qala in southern Afghanistan requested air support from the international forces in the country.

During the air strike a building used a a mosque was hit and destroyed. No civilian causualties were reported, according to the Danish Army.

The possibility of a cooperation about rebuilding [the mosque] is already being discussed with the local counsel.

This happened just two days after the Danes had arrived at the Helman province.
Yesterday the troops also came under fire:

The day after the Danish soldiers arrived in the troubled Helman provinse it came under attac.
According to the Army, a reccon squad came under fire outside their camp at Musa Qala.The patrol returned to the camp, which was subsequently fired upon with hand weapond, grenade launchers and mortars.

The enemy fire was returned, and air-support was called in.

No soldiers where injured in the firefight, the first since the arrival on Wednesday.

Before the Danish force arrived at Musa Qala it was repeatedly attacked by Taliban forces, and three soldiers where wounded when their vehicel hit a landmine during the advance into southern Afghanistan.

Denmark have some 300 troops in Afghanistan as part af the NATO force staioned there.

More on the Hitzb rally in CHP- beating up infidels

From an article in Sappho a Danish magazine founded by the Freedom of print Society, a group of well-respected writers and commentators in Denmark, concerned of the growing islamo-fascism in Europe. They are therefore not all that respected by the intellectual establishment in Denmark.

"The anti-semetic feelings was vented freely during the rally friday in Copenhagen. It was also the first time supporters of Hitzb ut-Tahrir openly attacked stand-byers. On july 21 in Copenhagen there was three [not just two as I reported in my last post] rallies regarding the escalated conflict in the Middle East. One demonstration supporting the right for Israel to defend itself, and two turning against Israel. One of theese demonstrations was arranged by Hitzb ut-Tahrir, the other by the Danish extreme left. In both theese rallies, flags where flying with the Star of David replaced by the nazi swastica, as well as the banner of Hezbollah."

Even though the rallies was conducted in mainly a peaceful manner, the violent rethorics of the Hitzb ut-Tahrir inflamed some of their followers:

"Shortly after the [Hitzb] rally had started moving the Sappho photografer had to seek shelter in a shop after been attacked by four young Hitbz ut-Tahrir followers who threatened to beat him up him and smash hos camera. Only the resolute reaction of the shop staff and the police prevented [further damage]

The second attack occured in a bus when a man, who had attended the pro-Israel rally was mugged. He had a Danish and an Israeli flag in a plastic shopping bag, and that apperantly was enough to provoke an "arabic-looking man" to beat him up and try to choke him.

"Non of the shocked passengers in the overcrowded bus had the wits or the courage to interfere, except for one foreign man [*] who saved the man from further harm.
The driver succeeded in blocking the doors, so the attacker could be arrested by police rushing to the scene."

Moonbats in Copenhagen

It is extremly worrying, that an openly fascist organisation like the Hitzb ut-Tahrir can virtualy claim the streets of Copenhagen, rallying hundreds of potentially violent followers. It's worrying, that someone can get attacked in a crowded bus for carrying an Israeli flag in a bag and no one dares to to do anything!

In the 1920's a bunch of moonbats sat in a Beerstube and everybody shook thier heads at those idiots, until one day the most outspoken critics didn't have a head to shake and everyone else found it best to "go along".

We really ought to know better by now.

Two worlds in Copenhagen

No less than two demonstrations where held in Copenhagen this afternoon. One that supported Israel, and another called on by Hitzb ut-tahrir, an organisation incredibly enough still not outlawed by the Danish authorities.

The Danish blogger Steen from Snaphanen was at the pro-Israel meeting outside the Danish parlament.

As You can see, not exactly a great turn-out, but then again a peaceful and dignified gathering.

The banners says: "Fight Terror, Support Israel." The statue is that of King Frederick VII, who willingly gave up his absolutist powers in 1848, thereby allowing Denmark to evolve peacefully into a democracy.

Less than a kilometer away, at the same time, at a rally called by the Hizb ut-Tahrir in the Town Square:

You will notice the gentleman on the poster.

It's hard to see on this reproduction, but the text on the plackard in the background reads: "Where is the Army of the Muslims?" indicating that the poor Arab world is defenseless against the overwhelming might of Israel.

I hope I'm not revealing any millitary secrets here, but perhaps the Muslim Army is somewhere around here:

On a side note, the Hizb's flier for the rally against Israel reads: "Stop the Jew state's terror and crimes in Lebanon and Palaestine"

No, not the "Jewish state" but the "Jew state", the way one might expect Heinrich Himmler to refer to Israel had it existed in his time.

The Danish flag is back in the Mid-East

This Edititorial (Link in Danish) is from today's Jyllands-Posten about the evacuation of thousands of foreign nationals from Lebanon, amongst those some 4500 Danish nationals. (My translation):

"Dannebrog [the name of the Danish flag] is again visible in the Mid-East. Busses evacuating Danish citizens from Lebanon are decorated with it. Danes with Lebanese or Palastinian passports wraps themselves in it to show what values they stand for through their Danish citizenship.

All but forgotten is the well orchestrated, hysterical scenes during the climax of theMohammed-crisis when Dannebrog was spat upon and burnt for the benefit of the international media.

Dannebrog represents all the best in the Danish values - openness, tolerance, security, decency. Amidst the many personal tragedies in Beirut and Lebanon it is refreshing to find renewed evidens that the hatred back then was only casual and passing simply because it was so well staged.

One can use this opportunity to ask why so many here [in Denmark] where so willing to assume that the international credibility of Denmark suffered a major drawback. The truth after all, is that the credibility of Denmark did not suffer in the slightest, indeed amongst some of our most importent partners - especially the US - our bold attitude in the defense of freedom of speach actually strenghed our position.

Arab media: Racist Danish Queen behind the Motoons

A few weeks ago some 55.000 pages af files and documents regarding the Muhammed Crisis were declassified by the Danish Foreign ministry. As a result, journalists are now digging up stories of what really happened in the Mideast and why things got so out of hand.

This [link need subscription] is from the Danish daily Jyllands-Posten, the paper that originally posted the cartoons. (My translation):

The evil Queen of the Danes

From a simple statement to misconceptions, exaggerations and direct manipulation. That is how the story was born, that in reality it was Queen Margrethe who was behind the Muhammed-cartoons.

Queen Margrethe was the great villain behind the Dane's malicious campaign against islam and muslims, culminating with the 12 drawings of the prophet in Jyllands-Posten.

It was her who set things in motion when she, in the spring of 2005, called on her people to resist islam and oppose the country's muslim minority.

This fantastic disclosure was printed in numerous media in the islamic world when the Mohammed-crisis peaked in february with the burning of flags and embassies.

Two examples from arabic newspapers were at that time refered to in the Danish media, but documents in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which the press and the public now has gained access to, shows that the stories about the evil and islamophobic Queen of the Danes reached a far greater circulation than assumed up to now.

The stories probably also helped legitimize that the boycot-actions and demonstrations was not only targeted at the impertinent newspaper, but against an entire nation, because it was now documented that the insult came from the highest place.

It began with a small but importent error in a translation: In the book "Margrethe" published in april 2005, the Queen talked to journalist and writer Annelise Bistrup about the totalitarian side of islam, which she found frightening.

"A response must be shown and sometimes one have to take the risk of being labeled in a less flattering way. For there are some things one cannot be tolerant about", the Queen said. The first reaction from Danish muslims was actually positiv:
"That was the right thing for the Queen to say," imam Abdul Wahid Pedersen stated. "We must challenge each other on religion. There is no better way to find tolerence than by meeting one another."

However, the story was also picked up by the foreign news agencies in Denmark. Reuters made a soft translation of the Queens remark: »A certain response must be shown,« was Reuters version of the sentense. The American agency AP tightened it quite a bit: »Resistance must sometimes be shown (to religious fanatics).« But the French bureau, AFP gave it all they got: »We have to show our opposition to Islam,« the Danish Queen was cited for saying.

A Berlin correspondent from the British paper, The Daily Telegraph, apparently saw the AFP's wire as a confirmation of her own view on Danmark as a xenophobic country and therefore gave the story an extra layer:

"Queen Margrethe II of Denmark has said her country needs to find a "counter-balance" [*] to Islamic fundamentalism, regardless of the opprobium such a stance provokes abroad.The Danish government has already been accused of fuelling xenophobia by introducing measures which effectively closed the country to asylum-seekers.

But in overtly political passages from an official biography published yesterday Queen Margrethe makes comments certain to complicate her nation's relationship with Muslims," The Daily Telegraph wrote.

Via the pan-arabian London based paper, Al-Hayat, this version reached the islamic world where it was cited in a few media - though without having any significant effect. But more than nine months later, when the cartoon crisis was nearing a dramatic peak it resurfaced from the archives. The Saudi paper, Saudi Gazette set the stage with a highly exposed article on january 30 based on the piece in The Daily Telegraph, Te Gazette announced that the drawings had been part of a larger pattern, involving an islamophobic goverment and Queen.

Racist Queen

Now the story really broke. Documents in the Foreign Ministry shows that Danish embassies in the following days found it in a number of versions in the Arab press. They tried in several cases to correct the most wildly exaggerations, but the more times it was told, the worse it got, and the more the rethoric was heated up.

Akhbar Al-youm in Egypt asserted february 1 that the Queen was actually behind the cartoons because she had called Islam a threat and had encouraged the Danish goverment not to show tolerance towards Islam.

The next day Al Watan i Saudi Arabia hinted, that the Queen was not only islamophbic but also racist. She had among other things: "encouraged her right-wing goverment not to show any tolerence towards the muslim minority."

An angry comment under the Hamlet-inspired headline, "There is something rotten in the state of Denmark" was printed in the large English-langueged paper, Arab News, was put on Al Jazeera's home page.

War against Islam

A no less angry commentator established in the Sausi Gazette that Jyllands-Posten was taking part in deliberate plan, supported by Queen Margrethe, who had requested her subjects to show intolerance.

By now, it had been established as an absolut fact, that the Queen and the goverment was cahooting in a great conspiracy against Islam and muslims.

The story was picked up in Indonesia by the paper Repubilca on february 7, causing furious muslims, among them members of the extrem organization Hitzb ut Tahrir to take to the streets in the capitol of Jakarta to demand an appology. A spokesman for the organiztion told the AFP that when one first had heard the Queens remarks and then seen the drawings, one had proof that this was a war against Islam.

The large Tyrkish paper, Milliyet did not take the matter lightly either, and on the large islamic news service IslamOnline a commentator sort of wrapped things up on february 14:
The boycot against Denmark was not simply caused by a single paper printing some drawings insulting the prophet. It was caused by a national attitude towards Islam, he explained and pointed three things out:

Queen Margrethe had published a book in which she criticized the muslims.
The Danish prime minister had three times since the printing of the cartoons described muslims as: "The scum of people".
A number of newspapers had printet articles criticizing Islam and muslims.

The commentator also wrote, that the boycot was working because half the Danish agricultural exports went to Saudi -Arabia, and he stated that in the matter at hand, Denmark had offended muslims more than the US had ever did, as all danes were bragging about the ridicule of the prophet.

Helle Lykke Nielsen, head of the Center for Middel East Studies at the University of Southern Denmark are not suprised the story about the Evil Queen.
"It is a natural reaction from people living in authoritaerian societies that everything comes from above. The higher the reponsibility can be placed, the more things make sense. Of course the Queen have to part and parcel with the islamophobic goverment and the paper that printed the drawings. When she is found to be mixed up in the whole affair it blends in with the views people allready have. That is what conspiraty-theories are made of", says Helle Lykke Nielsen.

The Telegraph notes on its online edition of the story that: In the original version of this story, relying on a translation provided by an international news agency, the Telegraph quoted Queen Margrethe as saying "We have to show our opposition to Islam". But the correct translation should be "counter-balance". The story was re-published on Feb 16, 2006 to reflect that.

So the Telegraph got cold feet in the midst of the crisis, perhaps (hopefully) realising the implications of Hannah Cleaver's piece.
Personally I find the word "response" more than suitable. After all, Her Majesty did not call for a new crusade, she simply hinted that the muslim immigrants should pay a little more respect to their new home country. The "increep" of islamic values in society is creating a subsonic and ever growing rumble of resistance within the native Danish population. Something is going to snap sooner or later unless we put our foot down and draw the line. Give Our "response" so to speak.
